Aroma:

strong, sweet, fresh, spicy-sweet, grassy.

Obtained by:

basil essential oil is obtained from elevated part of annual Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) of Lamiaceae family by using hydrodistillation method (steam distillation).

Characteristics:

antidepressant, tonicize, stimulates mental work; regenerative, immunostimulant; promotes smell recovery; antiseptic; antiinflammatory, analgetic, spasmolytic; hypertensive, cardiotonic; expectorant; febrifuge; stimulates appetite and digestion, antiulcer, antiemetic, cholagogue; antirheumatic; stimulates adrenal function, stimulates menstruation approaching, stimulates lactation; antifungal; tonicizes, smoothes skin, stimulates hair growth, eliminates wart; good repellent.

Recomended for:

at viral-mycoplasma, bacterial and fungal infections, immunodeficiency, warts, for the prevention of influenza and hair strengthening.

Origin of plant:

South Asia (India, Sri Lanka).

Main areas:

basil is characterized by a large number of subtypes, forms and variations resulting from natural hybridization (cross-pollination by insects), it is growing in Asia, Africa andAmerica. Basil is cultivated in Western Europe, Asia, Africa, Canada, the US and Latin America.

Properties of oil:

colorless or pale yellow liquid with a pleasant strong tart, sweet, spicy, grassy scent with a hint of camphor and tarragon.

Blend with other oils:

bergamot oil, issop oil, lavender oil, majoran oil, melissa oil, sage oil, geranium oil, neroli oil, santal oil, lime oil, citronella oil.

Recommended for treatment:

in depression, hypochondria, hysteria, apathy, nervous and physical overloads, for improvement memory, attention and concentration ability, migraines and headaches, brain vasospasm, viral respiratory infections; as immunostimulant; in inflammatory diseases of gums, pharyngitis, nose inflammatory, external and media otitis; in tracheitises, bronchitis, hooping cough, as analgetic and anti-inflammatory in neuritis, arthritis, osteochondrosis, rheumatism, gout, muscle pains, injuries, delay of menstruation, painful menstruation, inflammatory disease of female genital sphere, gnats repelling.

Caution:

should not be used while hypertension, pregnancy, in early post-infarction period; do not use more than 3 weeks because of the possible rising of blood coagulability.Possible photosensitization do not apply on skin less then 60 minutes before sunbathing.

essential oils are stored in tightly closed dark glass bottles in indoor temperature in place inaccessible to children. Protect from light.
