This is a 100% natural product cold-pressed from the seeds of the jojoba plant (Simmondsia chinensis), a shrub native to Southwestern North America, namely parts of Arizona, California and Mexico. Unrefined jojoba oil is a clear golden liquid with a slightly nutty odour, while refined jojoba oil is colourless and odourless.

Composition (useful substances)

Jojoba oil contains few triglycerides compared to other vegetable oils such as coconut oil and grapeseed oil. It is composed almost entirely of mono-esters of long-chain fatty acids and alcohols, which essentially makes it a wax that visually appears to be a liquid oil. Due to this composition, jojoba oil is extremely shelf-stable and resistant to high temperatures.

Fatty acids present in jojoba oil include 11-eicosenoic acid, erucic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, stearic acid, nervonic acid, and lignoceric acid. The fatty acid content of this oil can vary significantly depending on the climate and soil in which the plant is grown, as well as when it is harvested and how the oil is processed.

Properties and application

Jojoba oil is widely used for cosmetic purposes such as skin and hair care thanks to its moisturising and regenerative properties. It is perfect for taking care of dry, problem and mature skin, dry and chapped lips, and dry, brittle and dyed hair. Jojoba oil soothes irritated skin, prevents dehydration and flaking, makes the skin softer and smoother, improves its elasticity, and smooths out fine lines. It can be used to relieve sunburnt skin, as well as to prevent cellulite and stretch marks.

Directions

Can be applied as is, mixed with other vegetable and/or essential oils or added to store-bought cosmetic products. Absorbs well without leaving the skin feeling sticky or greasy.
