Valerian Essential Oil, Aromatika

Aroma: characteristic tart, woody-balsamic, sour, dense, stable and deep.

Obtained by: valerian essential oil is obtained from roots and rhizomes of perennial herbaceous plant - Common valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) of Valerinaceae family, by using hydrodistillation method (steam distillation). 

Characteristics:  antidepressant, sedative; analgetic, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsive, spasmolytic; removes coronary vessel spasms, normalizes heart rate; vermifuge; normalizes function of thyroid gland in hyperthyroidism, reduces skin hypersensibility. 

Recommended for treatment:  nervous excitement, anxiety, fears, depression, neurosis, hysteria, neurasthenia; epilepsy and other  spasmodic syndromes; neurocirculatory dystonia in hypertensive type; in migraines; for sleep improvement, hyperkinesia, neuritis, neuralgia, radiculitis, sciatica, stenocardia, cardioneurosis,  tachycardia, neurodermatitis, stress skin eruption, for reducing skin hypersensibility.

Origin of plant: 
in the European part, the Caucasus, Western Siberia, and in many regions of East Siberia and Far East. It is widely cultivated.

Properties of oil: 
greenish-yellow or brownish-yellow liquid with a characteristic sour smell with some nasty tone.

Blend with other oils: 
rosewood oil, petitgrain oil, mandarin oil, patchouli oil, pine-tree oil, lavender oil.

Ways of using, dosage:
for baths – to make mixture of 2-3 drops per 500 ml of water, milk or a small amount of ethyl alcohol. To add this mixture to bath. One should take this aroma bath before going bad. 
For common massage or segmental one should add 4-6 drops per 10 ml of vegetable base oil.


in overdoses, especially for a long time, it is possible mind depression, appearance of sleepiness, headaches, sickness, bradycardia.

Storage: essential oils are stored in tightly closed dark glass bottles in indoor temperature in place inaccessible to children. Protect from light.
